With the price of oil consistently hovering around record levels, more and more homeowners are looking for alternative ways to heat their homes. People in many parts of the country have seen double and sometimes even triple digit energy cost increases over the last 20 years. Most analysts agree this trend will continue in
the future. As a result many homeowners who heat with propane (LP gas), fuel oil or natural gas are evaluating different heating options.
We have created two energy calculators to help you determine if you
can save money by switching to electric heat. Many electric utilities offer money saving programs
such as off-peak rates, time-of-use rates,
heat rates, etc. Because the discounts
vary by electric utility, we are not able to figure the discounted rates into our energy
calculators. The result is that you may be able to save more money than the energy
calculators show. Please contact your local electric utility to discuss their offerings
of energy saving programs.
Energy Cost Comparison Calculator - Use this calculator to determine your "break-even point" with your current energy source as well as a cost comparison based on one million Btu. You will need to know
your current heating system type, your current energy cost, and your electric heat
rate (see paragraph 2).
|
Estimated Annual Fuel Cost Calculator - This calculator offers a more in-depth cost comparison tool for comparing electric heat with your current heating method. You will need to know your current heating system type, your current energy cost, annual fuel usage (or Btu/h heat loss), and
your electric heat rate (see paragraph 2). This calculator is also capable of estimating savings if you are considering installing a heat pump. To accurately estimate the effect of a heat pump, you will need to know the Coefficient of Performance rate (annual COP).
